Oktoberfest Train Connects Rome & Munich

oktoberfest train

Italy’s state-owned tourist railway arm, FS Treni Turistici Italiani, has launched the “Espresso Monaco”, a themed overnight train whisking beer lovers from Rome to Munich just in time for Oktoberfest 2025. Arriving refreshed and immersed in Bavarian culture—before the festival even starts.

Departures are scheduled for Friday evenings on 26 September and 3 October, leaving Rome Termini at 20:00 and arriving in Munich at approximately 14:30 on Saturdays. Return trips begin Sunday afternoon, ensuring travelers enjoy a full weekend at Europe’s premier festival.

The journey doubles as a rolling Oktoberfest experience. Passengers enjoy fresh draft beer, Bavarian music, themed décor, and an onboard dining car serving traditional bites—directly on the train.

The route meanders north through Florence, Bologna, Verona, then crosses the Alps with scenic stops in Trento, Bolzano, Bressanone, Fortezza, Vipiteno, Colle Isarco, and Brenner, before reaching Munich via Innsbruck.

Tickets start from just €99 one way, with options ranging from basic seats to shared couchettes and private sleepers—making it an accessible luxury travel option for beer fans and train lovers alike.

This unique service not only offers convenience—but also heralds a new era of themed tourism by train, blending cultural celebration, immersive experience, and scenic travel in one journey.
