Paris has unveiled its newest urban forest on the forecourt of Place de l’Hôtel de Ville. The project inaugurated on June 21, 2025, transforms one of the city’s most iconic squares into a verdant retreat for locals and visitors.
Spanning 2,500 m², including 1,000 m² in open soil and raised borders, the forest integrates 49 mature trees—some up to 10 meters high—and over 20,000 plants. Heritage elements like Davioud benches and historic fountains now sit amid shaded greenery, offering a tranquil escape in the bustling Marais district.

Urban Renewal Meets Climate Goals
The Hôtel de Ville project forms part of Paris’s broader urban forestry plan, which aims to combat urban heat islands while creating inviting public spaces. With thorny locusts, oaks, and resilient local flora, the site blends sustainability with elegance.
This is the city’s third urban forest, joining those at Place de Catalogne and Bois de Charonne, and signals a new chapter in Paris’s commitment to rebalancing its historic core with climate-conscious design.
A New Luxury Experience in Paris
For luxury travelers, the new Hôtel de Ville forest enriches the Parisian experience:

Visitors can enjoy shaded walks, quiet benches, and cooling fountains—making this transformation a must-visit for travelers seeking both beauty and sustainability in the heart of Paris.
